Ireland are hosting the 52nd European Sandyacht Championships in 2017 on Bettystown Beach.
The best Sandyachters from across Europe will converge on Bettystown Beach for the week long event in September 2017, a great opportunity to showcase Ireland and see a magnificent sporting spectacle.
The event will start with practice on Saturday September 9th with the opening ceremony on Sunday September 10th and racing on the expansive beaches of Laytown and Bettystown until Friday September 15th where over 100 of the best land sailors in Europe will race over a five day period.
Ireland last hosted the FISLY European Landsailing Championship in 1983 iin Newcastle, County Down.
Alan Watson from Laytown is president of FISLY and was instrumental in Ireland's succesful bid. He said there would be about 100 competitors taking part and the event would bring about 250-300 overseas visitors to the area together with fans of the sport from both Northern Ireland and the Republic. It is also hoped that there will be a substantial amount of local spectators for this exciting sport .
